I agree with most points in this post... especially the fact that "It may also be that as Indians, we care less about innovation and more about making ends meet"... Its more or less prominent in all aspects of our lives, and somehow we have accepted it as a part of life.

every place has its own limitations, like in india one has more political,contruction,economy related questions, oman or gulf has lesser questions to be answered, so we see engineering marvels over there,
the same people (labourers)make mall in india and oman (else where) but what astonishes me is that they believe more in the european or arabic supervisor than a indian supervisor (engg, or owner)and so is the difference

Rehab - It is true that there are a lot of substandard malls in Gurgaon. However, the new ones are genuinly brilliant - and I am comparing them on a global scale. This includes form, function and substance.
Furthermore the power problem in the north is more due to shoddy infrastructure in the form of outdated power lines as opposed to lack of MW.

@the analyst--for someone who has 'visited' malls in Gurgaon, they are great on aesthetic appeal. But in Mumbai there is a lot of stuff to do, as opposed to Gurgaon which has malls littered across the place. The aesthetic appeal has to be there in that case. For Gurgaon the question should be, do they have green malls? This is with regard to a power shortage problem in the North.
I am going to compare Mumbai and Muscat, coz I have extensively checked out malls in these cities.
