Week of Understanding

Maria always came home to share Marie Biscuits. They were a fetish we both shared. Along with a rag doll that didn't have a name. We ate nihari (beef stew, a Pakistani delicacy) and chhole(chickpeas) over weekends and discussed Eid preparations during Ramzaan. Muscat was a home where we never bothered about borders. Politics was limited to political science textbooks.
Migration and life happened. She moved to Canada and I moved to India. She pursued healthcare and is trying to work towards effective healthcare policies. I am pursuing management and hoping to market products effectively.
When India played Pakistan in the World Cup semifinals, we tracked each other's Facebook feeds. At the end of the game, I danced with jubilation and she applauded with a smile. We haven't met in over ten years. But we connected through sport and passion of twenty two players.
In a utopian world, I wish political measures were as easy flowing as music or sport.

James Shelley is celebrating A Week of Understanding. This post is for his brilliant initiative.

On Definitions

So many people come up with so many definitions of love and marriage. Not realizing that it is about creating your own secret language and your own comfort zones.
So many people live and hang on to the past that defined love for them. If you think there is just one definition, aren't you restricting your experiences?

Romance could just be buying toothbrush together. Love could be leaf-eared pages in your favourite book, so that the other can read quotes.
Then what stops you from believing in the new?
