Twitter + TV = Magic

Why aren't TV shows in India using Twitter to engage users during commercial breaks?

Just thought of this concept for TV shows. In any case there is no stopping the dearth of reality shows in India.
How about if users could tweet what a reality show contestant should do next?
I have always imagined television to be a static medium and thought that there are ways to make it interactive. Imagine the possibilities!
I would love to script the show from my living room. Not only will it be the ultimate in crowdsourcing, but it will be exciting to see how creative and crazy the Indian audience is.

I am already imagining a stream of 140 characters as a ticker that decides the fate of the script. Of course, it will work in reality shows in a real-time format, but a weekly engagement exercise on social platforms could change the way we look at things on television completely.

Hey,

Google and Apple are coming with Internet TV thingi. Samsung already has TV where you can simultaneously tweet. It takes advantages of widgets. http://www.samsung.com/uk/internet-tv/

But what these companies haven't figured out yet is how to do it best. Once they do figure that out I'm pretty sure networks would like to take advantage of the power of the Internet.

Networks or cable channels targeted at youngsters have always done that. Take example of MTV which has that MTV ticker with funny tweets. MTV now also does web only shows.

So it's coming.. when they figure out how to.

@unitechy : I'd love to see them incorporate concepts like this. Have heard about their TV forays. Can't wait for technology to take its leap onto television!

That is a brilliant idea.. but it is definitely a challenge to incorporate. I had thought of something like this when, during cricket matches, people tweet about scores & how good or bad a player is doing. Thought it could be taken a step ahead but didn't know how.

It would be difficult for the contestant to do what is tweeted, then & there, no? Most of these reality shows are scripted.. meaning, a lot of practice and re-takes are involved. So I wonder if it can be done real-time..

There are a few shows that are experimenting with this format.here audience control the show
MTV Real chat house is a step in that direction.. but since we dont make 'live' reality shows in India [costs+legal/censor issues] it might not happen very soon..
v.cool idea :)
