There is this interior decoration store at Kamala Mills, Lower Parel . Because I frequent the area almost everyday, I have a fair idea of the number of customers that visit this store. The basic problem with this store is location and pricing. Even though its in a upmarket area(close to Phoenix Mills- where it would have worked just fine), its in a compound where there are more office-goers than idle window shoppers. For this reason there are no fresh footfalls. Its the same customer day after day.
This store, for lack of customers has started a marketing campaign of sorts in the same area. These are some of the reasons why any amount of marketing will fail :
1. Most customers from Lower Parel have ample stores in Phoenix Mills to goto. A lone store in an office compound is hardly the way to start shopping. In my 9-5 job, I have very little time for an interior decor store that sells candles for 400 a piece.
2. Interior decoration items are bought when a lot of time is at hand or if something specific is being sought.
3. Customers from other suburbs have better options in the Churchgate area.
4. The store seriously misses out on the crowd pulling ability of Phoenix Mills. Its located far away from Phoenix and a serious shopper will skip this store because of the distance. No other reason.
My suggestion would be to put the store up on rent, or start a restaurant. There is enough hungry office-going crowd in that area that wouldn't mind paying for good food at affordable rates. Plus the only choice that we have is Jai Hind(a fish specialty restaurant ) and Sri Krishna(an Udupi restaurant). For variety, most of us have to goto Phoenix Mills or Peninsula Corporate Park, which is not feasible keeping the time factor in mind.
